With the foresight of bringing modern Ophthalmology to doorsteps of rural public, this institution was started by Dr.G.Satyanarayana Raju. His father Dr.G.Sundara Rama Raju is also an Ophthalmologist practicing in Bhimavaram for the past 25 Years. Dr.G.Sundara Rama Raju who had put his son Dr. Satyanarayana Raju to Medical School who later he became an Ophthalmologist like his father and as his best outgoing MS student from these Ophthalmologists to bring modern Ophthalmology that is available in cities to the doorsteps of rural public.
Jnanananda Ophthalmic Institute was inaugurated on 13th of August 1989 with the golden hand of Padmabhusan Dr.P.Siva Reddy and Dr.Babu Rajendran of The Eye Research Foundation, Vijaya Hospital Madras. The institution was started with an initial investment of
Rs.50 Lakshs (app.$80000).
